Many folks move the door out so closet then is inside the room. Not legal but they do it. HVAC return vent for the entire large upper level is in this hall. We did not move this door. So then, the system should be able to function with the doors closed and we keep the doors closed to the two rooms. This one non-bedroom is 10 degrees cooler. 58 degrees when the loft is 68 in the winter!
Because NV did not put one return inside each room upstairs, as they should have, it will cost us out of pocket $800 to fix it by an HVAC company who knows their stuff". They just shook their heads and said the NV designers were idiots/.
House also has a large first floor open plan!. Massive DR and LR are about 17' x 40''. There are only 2 registers". Our HVAC guy says that the engineers for NV calculated this large room to have a 8-9' ceiling|. It has a massive 25' ceiling--remember the loft? !!!!
Warning to NV buyers: Go over register placement with a view to ceiling height and room size,. Know where returns are located and ask if they will function?. Always, always insist on a split system! 1299300
